Likely still needing to pick up some wins to make the NCAA tournament, Georgia Tech has been put in a pool with top-seeded North Carolina and 12th-seeded Pittsburgh for the ACC tournament beginning Tuesday in Durham, N.C. Tech has the No. 8 seed.

Tech finished the regular season with a series win over No. 10 Duke this weekend at Russ Chandler Stadium. The Jackets are 31-25 overall and ranked No. 46 in RPI, according to warrennolan.com. Before the final two weeks of the regular season, coach Danny Hall said he believed that the Yellow Jackets needed to win their last two series to be in position to make the NCAA field, which they've missed two of the past three seasons. They beat Duke, but lost to Virginia. A win over North Carolina (No. 7 in RPI) would help the cause. Pitt is No. 122.

If Tech can win Pool A, it would face the winner of Pool D (Duke, Louisville and Wake Forest) in the semifinal next Saturday.

The Jackets have caught fire in the ACC tournament previously. They won as the No. 9 seed in 2014 and as the No. 8 seed in 2012. They are the highest seeds to win the ACC championship in league history.

Tech plays Pittsburgh Tuesday at 11 a.m. and North Carolina on Friday at 3 p.m. Games are televised on regional sports networks (including Fox Sports South) and online on ACC Network Extra.
