The Hawks will be without Dewayne Dedmon and Justin Anderson when training camp begins next week as each returns from an injury.

Dedmon suffered an avulsion fracture in his left ankle during a workout on Aug. 27. The injury was discovered following an X-ray and MRI exam. The center was placed in a walking boot following the diagnosis. Following a re-evaluation, Dedmon no longer needed the boot. Another evaluation is expected in a week at which time a better idea will be known as to when Dedmon will be cleared to participate.

Dedmon appeared in 62 games for the Hawks last season after signing as a free agent. He averaged 10.0 points and 7.9 rebounds.

Anderson underwent surgery on his left leg for recurring tibial stress syndrome on June 29 as a member of the 76ers. The small forward was traded to the Hawks later in the offseason as part of a three-team deal. The original diagnosis called for a 6-to-8 week recovery timetable following the surgery. However, Anderson has yet to be cleared to practice. He will be re-evaluated by the Hawks in two weeks. The timeframe for re-evaluation means Anderson will likely miss preseason games.

Anderson appeared in 38 games for the 76ers last season. He averaged 6.2 points and 2.4 rebounds.

The Hawks open training camp on Tuesday. The first exhibition game is Oct. 1 versus the Pelicans at Georgia Tech’s McCamish Pavilion. The regular-season opener is Oct. 17 at the Knicks, the start of a three-game road trip.
