Waffle House never stops serving, and on Tuesday it served up a pretty good burn to WWE.
WaHo’s Twitter took aim at the 24/7 Championship title belt that World Wrestling Entertainment Hall of Famer Mick Foley premiered the night before.
The tweet — which has more than 1,500 retweets and included an image of Foley holding up the title — read: “Somewhere in Georgia we are missing our 24/7 sign... @WWE”
The reason for the around-the-clock theme is that the title can be contested anytime, anywhere.
Most folks talking about the title on social media were happy with the concept but roasted the design.
From our end, the belt does evoke the imaginary of a diner mixed with Flava Flav, which ultimately isn’t a bad depiction of the vibe at many Waffle Houses.
Waffle House also said on Twitter that its thousands of always-open restaurants have been a respite for wrestlers driving at all hours between shows to obscure reaches of America.
Professional wrestling has always been important in Georgia, from Ted Turner founding World Championship Wrestling (WCW) in 1988 to sports-entertainment legend Ric Flair taking residence in Gwinnett County.
A Georgia original itself, the first Waffle House opened in Avondale Estates on Sept. 5, 1955.
