More than 32,000 people cast ballots for the Gwinnett County MARTA referendum at seven early voting locations across the county.

After polls closed at 7 p.m. Friday, 32,182 ballots had been cast, according to the county. Voters had three straight weeks of early voting at the county elections office and two weeks of early voting at satellite locations. The amount of early voting was unprecedented for Gwinnett County, with two full Saturdays and Sundays. All polling places were open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.

That total is nearly three times the early in-person vote totals for the December runoff for secretary of state and public service commissioner. There were five days of early voting for that race, resulting in more than 11,000 votes cast. The total early in-person vote for the November election, which included the governor's race, was 137,450, more than a quarter of all registered Gwinnett County voters at that time.

Voters who have not voted already will head to their polling places Tuesday for the referendum’s official Election Day. Voters must go to their assigned polling place to cast a ballot.
