If Chantelle Rytter's other metro Atlanta events are any indication, her latest project is going to be very well received.

Rytter is the ringleader of the Krewe of the Grateful Gluttons, a community group that started not only the Atlanta Beltline Lantern Parade, but similar parades in Grant Park, Decatur and Sandy Springs. They also convinced 755 people to try and beat the Guinness World Record for the "largest gathering of people dressed as garden gnomes" — an April attempt that is still under review, a Guinness spokeswoman said Friday.

But now, it's Midtown's turn to get one of Rytter's lantern parades. The Parliament of Owls, a parade made up of folks wearing black and carrying white owl lanterns, will be held Aug. 3.

People can make their own owl lantern, take a workshop or pick up an owl lantern kit or free mask. On event day, everyone will gather at the Promenade II building, 1230 Peachtree St., at 8:30 p.m.

The meeting site is significant because it’s where Cousins Properties has gifted Rytter a free studio for two years, she said. The parade is, in part, a present to the business, she said.

“I really hope to shine a light on this practice of a developer gifting an art studio, and illustrate that if you support artists in your neighborhood, you get art in your neighborhood,” she said in an email. “Imagine an Atlanta where all developers gifted art studios.”

At 9:15 p.m., the parade will begin down a route that includes the High Museum piazza and ends at Colony Square Plaza. The Black Sheep Ensemble, a group of brass and saxophone players, percussionists and performance artists, will play with the pack.

An informal after party will be held at the Castle, a landmark that sits on a hilltop above 15th Street.
