City Winery is now inviting the public to join 125 of its team members help rebuild farms in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria made landfall in September.
The winery/restaurant/music venue, which initially sought donations from the public but didn't ask outsiders to come along, announced the invitation on Facebook Tuesday. The departure date, Jan. 29, is less than two weeks away.
Travel packages include two nights at La Concha Resort in San Juan, transportation from the hotel to farms with City Winery management and meals; they do not include flights or taxis from the airport to the hotel and back.
A one-person package is $1,493.50, and a two-person package is $2,008.50. About half of the cost goes toward the hotel, while the rest is “for direct impact to farms and local support team,” according to the website.

Eighteen of the volunteers going to the island will be from Atlanta's Ponce City Market location, which opened in June 2016. City Winery has multiple locations across the country.
Volunteers will work for three days on farms devastated by the nearly Category 5 storm. They will bring duffel bags filled with supplies such as shovels and extension cords, as well as, ground coffee, dehydrated milk and diapers.
The restaurant group is collaborating with San Juan’s Restaurant 1919 and Condado Vanderbilt Hotel for the project.
The team will also build a stage at one of the farms and hold a concert to “bring some joy to the community,” City Winery founder and CEO Michael Dorf said in a video.
Donations can be made online here; 100 percent of the contributions will go directly to farming communities through Foundation for Puerto Rico, the business says.
