LifeLine Animal Project, which runs the DeKalb County shelter, said Tuesday that the number of cats found at a home off Columbia Drive has increased by 20 and the total is expected to climb to 100 or so as more are caught.
Acting on tips from two veterinarians’ offices, DeKalb County authorities went last month to a home off Columbia Drive and found dozens of cats in allegedly filthy conditions.
It took two trips over the two weeks for workers to find at least 60 cats in the house, which had feces, trash and other debris strewn about, police said.

“We also observed a strong stench of ammonia (from cat urine) that caused us to cough real bad and gave us swollen red eyes,” an officer wrote in a report.
The residents, who were charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty, agreed to turn the animals over to DeKalb County Animal Services.
“These cats are now safely in our care, but they desperately need your help,” the animal shelter said in a post on Facebook.
