At least 12 bullets were fired at a Henry County home late Thursday night.
One hit a 12-year-old girl in the neck.
Henry County police are searching for two suspects after the shooting that left Layla Kendall injured, but the child’s godmother told Channel 2 Action News she should survive.
The woman, who asked Channel 2 to only be identified as Shawna, administered aid to her goddaughter until paramedics arrived.
“(I) kept her head, kept her stable, (and) kept talking to her, so she could respond until 911 could get there,” Shawna, who is a nurse, said. “I had to do what I was trained to do, and that was to save her life.”
The rounds were fired at a home off Pates Lake Way, which is near Jonesboro Road, Channel 2 reported. At least 12 bullets hit the house.

Before the shooting, Shawna said someone knocked at the door, but she didn’t answer it.
“We heard some knocks at the door, and we didn’t open the door, and the officer said it was good we didn’t open the door, because we could have (been) ambushed,” she told Channel 2.
The 12-year-old girl has injuries to her neck and lower body, and she spent Friday undergoing multiple surgeries, the news station reported.
The two suspects are believed to have left the scene in a dark gray BMW. No description of the suspects was available, and it’s unclear why the home was targeted.
A GoFundMe page was created to help the family with medical bills. As of Friday night, the page had raised more than $800.
