A woman was shot in the neck while driving in Clayton County, which caused a three-vehicle, head-on crash Monday morning, police said.

Kelsey Quayle, 28, was driving her Mazda 626 west on Upper Riverdale Road around 7 a.m. when she began to drift into oncoming traffic, Clayton County police said in a news release.

The Mazda hit an eastbound Suzuki XL-7 before being hit by an eastbound Ford Escape, which caused the Ford to roll over onto its roof near Roy Huie Road, the release said.

The drivers of the Ford and Suzuki suffered minor injuries, but Quayle was taken to Southern Regional Medical Center in critical condition, the release said.

She was later taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where doctors discovered she had been shot, the release said. Her injuries remain life-threatening.

Clayton County police believe she was shot before the wreck, likely prompting the accident.

Two GoFundMe pages have been set up to assist with medical costs, including one by a person saying she's Quayle's sister.
