A dog was killed during an apparent burglary at a Newnan home, according to a Coweta County Sheriff's Office incident report.

Cardina Bock-Martinez last saw her dog when she took him outside her Newnan home and placed him near the basement door early Aug. 8.

By the time she returned home about 3:45 p.m., her children found the dog lying in the basement floor, “not moving much,” the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office said in an incident report.

Not long after they got the dog to the veterinarian, he died at the animal hospital from trauma.

Detectives eventually determined the pet died during an apparent burglary.

Authorities called to the home said in the report there was no damage to the basement door and no sign of it being forced open.

Though it’s not exactly clear how the burglars entered the home, Bock-Martinez told police a brick was found in the grass nearby. The bricks are normally stacked beside the home, she said.

According to the report, the dog had injuries to his head, a bloodied left eye and a bruise on his front leg.

Nothing was taken from the home, Bock-Martinez told deputies, including her son’s cellphone and iPad.

No suspects in the case have been identified.
